institution

The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology is a small, specialist research university in Delhi, northern India.

What began as a small institution of 60 B-tech students in 2008 has since grown to a student body of around 1,200 undergraduates, 330 postgraduates, and 180 doctoral students. The university is research-focused, specialising in computer sciences in particular.

The institution is state-funded, and benefits from government grants for specialist projects such as the $554,000 development of its Innovation and Incubation Centre for entrepreneurship and technology-based start-ups.

Subjects are taught across six core departments: computer science and engineering, electronics and communications engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences, sciences, and computational biology.

The university places strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, and employs a number of green initiatives on campus, including its own water management and renewable energy resources.

The university’s main campus is spread over 25 acres, and is home to academic teaching and research buildings, the university library and information centre. The library provides access to specialist technology and engineering literature and has a 24-hour reading room for scholars.

Accommodation is available for up to 536 students on site. Here, a dining hall and recreation centre, gym, private study areas and student activities can be found.

Extracurricular sports and clubs are a key part of student life at the university. Students are also encouraged to take part in the university’s three annual festivals: Esya, a celebration of technology; Odyssey, which celebrates arts and culture; and Triquestra for sports.

The university is well connected to Delhi city centre by bus and public underground system.
