Scholarship of the month: MPOWER Global Citizen Scholarship

MPOWER Financing offers funding for refugee, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and international students seeking educational opportunities in the US and Canada.

The Global Citizens Scholarship includes one scholarship of USD$8,000 and two smaller scholarships of $2,000 and $1,000. To qualify, applicants must be accepted or enrolled on a full-time degree programme at an MPOWER-supported school and legally allowed to study in the US or Canada.

Students can spend the award on study materials, books or living expenses, or put it towards their tuition. The award can be spent at the student’s discretion as long as it goes towards university-related expenses. 

Eligibility criteria for US study includes having a valid study visa, being protected under DACA or holding US permanent residency (green card). For study in Canada, applicants should be Canadian permanent residents or have a valid Canadian study permit. The deadline for applications is 31 December 2026. 

To apply, students need to fill out a form online and answer an essay question. The answer to the essay question will be the main assessment of whether a student will receive the scholarship.
