The German Academic Exchange Service, or Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), is a national government organisation offering a range of scholarship opportunities to international students in Germany.

The DAAD scholarship for master’s studies offers funding for international students wishing to study a master’s degree in Germany.

The programme offers students monthly payments of up to €992 (£830) for 10 to 24 months (depending on course duration).

Applicants may also receive funding towards health insurance, travel fares, a monthly rent subsidy, support towards any health costs as a result of disabilities, and German language course fees. The scholarship does not cover tuition fees.

The DAAD also offers subject-specific master’s scholarships for music, fine art, performing arts and architecture.

To apply, students must submit an application form, a letter of motivation, proof of English or German language proficiency and a research proposal. Applications can be submitted in either German or English. All rapplication documents must be translated into German or English.
