Your personal sphere of influence: As a PhD student, you will be an integral part of the Neuromechanics Research Group, led by Dr. Hans Kainz. Based at the Centre for Sport Science and University Sports (Auf der Schmelz 6a, 1150 Vienna), our team focuses on multi-scale simulations to enhance the understanding of typical and pathological movement development. We collect and analyze three-dimensional motion capture data and medical images from various groups, including clinical populations, healthy people and elite athletes. Our goal is to improve clinical decision making in people with movement disorders, enhance evidence-based motor rehabilitation after injuries or orthopedic intervention, and increase our fundamental understanding of how musculoskeletal loads influence the adaptation of biological structures. In your function as a PhD student, you will perform research activities on a specific project, including developing research ideas, conducting your own experiments, performing simulations, validating findings, and collaborating with clinical partners. You will work closely with researchers from different disciplines and contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations. Your future tasks: Research & Innovation: Develop and implement research ideas within the scope of the project. Design and conduct experiments and data collection protocols. Previous scientific publications and presentations at national or international conferences are a plus. Fluent in English (written and spoken, C1 Level); German is desirable but not required. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Operations department at Surrey Sports Park for a full- time Recreation Assistant. We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated and highly organised individual to join our friendly and busy team. The role is active and varied and you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the centre. General responsibilities will include cleaning, maintenance, set up, maintaining, and dismantling of equipment for preparation of areas and sessions as appropriate. Providing poolside supervision, including making water-based rescues and ensuring activities can be carried out safely, effectively and within a prescribed timescale. This role will include working on a rota of an average of 40 hours per week including weekends, early mornings and evening shifts. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to lead the storm surge modelling in the Singapore Sea. As a specialist in wave modelling software, the successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects related to coastal and ocean wave modelling using Delt3D software. The role of the researcher is to perform physics-based modeling to build a numerical model that can predict storm surges in Singapore coastlines based on different weather conditions. The researcher will also work with team members within the consortium in generating necessary data required for developing a machine learning model for storm surge prediction. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Delft3D and SWAN Modelling: Utilize Delft3D and SWAN software to develop and validate numerical models for wave propagation, storm surge modelling, and coastal dynamics. Building up of a database of sea level anomaly with extreme weather conditions: Utilize the developed numerical model to build a database of sea level anomaly with different weather conditions, which can be used to develop a data-driven model for storm surge prediction. Data Analysis: Process and analyze climate, ocean wave and coastal data to improve model accuracy. Research: Conduct research to enhance wave modelling techniques and contribute to the advancement of coastal engineering and oceanography. Impact Assessment: Evaluating the potential impacts of storm surges on coastal regions, including flood risk assessments and vulnerability analyses. Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and oceanographers. Reporting: Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals and present results at conferences. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Assists in co-supervision of Final Year Projects (FYP) or capstone projects students together with the project PI. The employee is to communicate with any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any adhoc duties assigned. Requirements PhD or Master degree in a related field with a focus on coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics. Proficiency in wave modeling software, particularly Delft3D and SWAN. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Research experience in coastal and ocean waves is preferred. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Support development of sustainability solutions and applications to implement organizational green transition through project execution (experimentation, data collection, analysis and evaluation) including includes but not limited to carbon management, circular economy, renewable energy, and sustainable materials.
