About

Established in 2019 and opened in September of that same year, the Five Islands Campus is the fifth campus of The University of the West Indies. Located in the west of Antigua and set on eight (8) acres of land in the Five Islands community, a quiet farming and fishing village of 500 people named for the five rock islands in the adjacent Five Islands Harbour. It lies just 4.8 km southwest of the nation's capital city, St. John's. The intent of this new campus is to serve the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and is being designed as a 21st century, fit-for-purpose campus, with a focus on the robust expansion of the region's social capital, presenting citizens of the OECS with new opportunities to access higher education. 

The School of Business and Management (SoBM) at The University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus has a strategic mandate to reflect the new thrust of the Campus as a Co-op University Campus. The SoBM has carved out four definitive areas of concentration to include Management Studies, Economics, Entrepreneurship and Accounting & Finance.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into the three year degree  programmes offered by the School of Business and Management: 

Applicants must satisfy either (a) and (b) or (c ) below: 

  • CXC/CSEC or GCE O’ Level passes in a minimum of five  (5) subjects. Subjects requirements are Mathematics and Language. Grade requirements for CXC/CSEC are General Proficiency, Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I,II or III  from June 1998; and  
  • CAPE or GCE A’ Level passes in a minimum of two (2) Subjects. CAPE subjects must consist of both Unit I and  Unit 2. 
  • An Associate degree, from an approved Caribbean or other tertiary Level institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5 

Career outcomes

The programme is designed to be both academically sound and specifically relevant to the regional and global Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The training will provide opportunities for employment in hotels, transportation and tour operation companies, travel agency operations, national and regional tourism organizations and government departments. It will be of benefit to those already in the industry as well as those seeking to enter this diverse field.
