World University Rankings 2024 by subject: life sciences

The life sciences subject ranking uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: agriculture and forestry, biological sciences, veterinary science, and sport science.

This year’s table includes 1,059 universities, up from 1,017 last year.

Harvard University maintains its top ranking. The US holds 12 of the top 20 positions – one fewer than last year. While the University of Pennsylvania joins this group at 17th, up from 21st, the universities of Washington and California, San Diego drop out.

Several top Asian universities have improved, including China’s Peking University, which climbs to joint 12th from 18th; the National University of Singapore, which rises one place to 22nd; and the University of Tokyo, which jumps to 30th, after being 38th last year.

After the US and the UK, the most-represented nation in the top 100 is Germany, followed by Australia and China.
