More and more students are coming forward and opening up about feelings of stress and anxiety. In fact, research has found that one in eight university students experiences a mental health condition – so it is important that universities provide the support that students need during their time there.

Participants in the 2017 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey were asked to provide a rating between “strongly agree” and “strongly disagree” on whether their university has “good welfare support”.

Harper Adams University topped the list in providing the best welfare support for its students. One of the ways in which Harper Adams implements strategies to support student welfare is with the appointment of wardens, students who live on campus and help first-year students to settle in. “There’s always one or two who get homesick. You can sense when someone is not 100 per cent happy,” says warden Kris Dummett, who is studying for a master’s in agricultural engineering. Read more from him here.
