Journalist and broadcaster Beatrix Campbell has been awarded a doctorate of the Open University.

Roger Falconer, Hyder professor of environmental water management at Cardiff University; Michael Kelly, head of the school of electronic engineering, information technology and mathematics at the University of Surrey; Krishna Chandra Persaud, senior lecturer in the department of instrumentation and analytical science at UMIST; and David Garrood, director of Advent Communications Ltd are to receive The Royal Academy of Engineering's Silver Medal on June 24.

Sir Pehin Haji Abdul Aziz, minister of education and acting minister of health, Brunei Darussalam, will be awarded an honorary law doctorate from the University of Liverpool in July.

Also honoured are Ian Bogle, chairman of the British Medical Association (DM); Michael Brady, professor of information engineering at Oxford University (DEng); Wilfred Corrigan, president and founder of LSI Logic in California (DEng); Richard Foster, director of National Museums and Galleries, Merseyside (DIur); Patricia Routledge, actress (DLitt); Richard Taylor, research scientist, Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre, Stanford University (DSc); Nelson Yu, solicitor of the Supreme Courts of England and Hong Kong (DIur); Diana Holmes, head of modern languages at Keele University, Staffordshire (Chevalier de' l'ordre des Palmes Academique).
