Jönköping International Business School

Established in 1994 as part of Jönköping University Foundation, Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is a business school in Jönköping in south central Sweden and part of Jönköping University. It is situated on the western shore of the Munksjön lake.

The school has about 1,800 students. With a strong focus on entrepreneurship in its teaching, JIBS offers undergraduate courses such as (in English): international economics, international management, marketing management and sustainable enterprise development with a Civilekonomprogrammet programme for Swedish students only.

On the graduate side, there is a diverse range of courses. They include business administration/economics and international logistics and supply chain management; international marketing; strategic entrepreneurship; global management; international financial analysis; digital business; economic analysis and engineering management.

Doctoral options range over the disciplines of business administration, economics, informatics and statistics.

JIBS research priorities cover entrepreneurship, ownership and renewal. On the entrepreneurship side students have created numerous innovative business ideas each year, assisted by close links with industry and also a close working relationship with the help of the Science Park in Jönköping. Between 1997 and 2017, roughly 550 companies have been started by JIBS students. It’s worth noting that the university library is a research library focused on entrepreneurship, small business and innovation, with the Information Centre for Entrepreneurship containing the largest collection of entrepreneurship research in the world.

On the ownership side, research work is greatly informed by The Centre for Family Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO) on family businesses but also ranges over complex ownership issues in the areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, finance, law, accounting and management.

Finally, on the renewal side, the focus is on economic renewal, regional renewal, business transformation, ownership transition, reshaping of industries, failure, change management, globalisation, the urbanisation process and more.

JIBS is regarded as the most international business school in Sweden, as shown in the STINT 2016 Internationalisation Index (covering dimensions of research, students, PhD students, education, faculty and leadership), where JIBS has the most internationalised courses, student body, faculty and research in Sweden.

JIBS became the first Swedish double-accredited school by EQUIS and AACSB in 2015. Some 98.3 per cent of JIBS graduates have a job within 12 months. Almost half of the graduates have a job waiting for them when they graduate.

Notable alumni include Stefan Larsson, the former CEO of the Ralph Lauren Corporation, and Katrina Hua, vice operations director of MCI Capital.
