According to Freeman Dyson of the Institute for Advanced Study, in a recent email to Arthur C. Clarke, there is one simple way of finding out whether there really is life in the oceans of Jupiter's satellite Europa. From time to time, there are meteorite impacts on Europa, which must hurl water from the oceans into space. If the water goes, so will the life in it - so the easy way to detect it is to look for frozen fish in space near Jupiter. Perhaps Cornish fishermen could be retrained to look for them, and to see whether they are immersed in parsley sauce and trapped in plastic bags.
