Older people should not feel guilty about taking naps during the day if it allows them to keep active and busy when they are feeling less tired, new research suggests. Academics at the University of Surrey found that occasional naps make older people better able to lead a fully active life by giving them enough energy to take part in recreational and social activities. Susan Venn, of the department of sociology, said that quality of sleep at night often deteriorates as people get older so the only way to combat this is by nodding off at strategic times during the day.
