University of Birmingham - A very big chill may lie ahead

Misguided use of technology to tackle global warming could trigger an ice age, scientists at the University of Birmingham have warned. Research by a team from the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies suggests that during an ice age 630 million years ago, the atmosphere was unusually rich in carbon dioxide, something associated today with global warming. The researchers warned that suggested measures to tackle climate change, such as launching tiny particles of sulphate into the atmosphere to cool temperatures, could reflect too much solar radiation from the Earth and precipitate another ice age.
