The EU funded SWIFT-WFD project is organising a laboratory training course and policy workshop in Lelystad, the Netherlands, from 1 to 4 November.

The SWIFT-WFD project focuses on the production of quality control tools for validation purposes of screening methods, for successfully implementing the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). This series of two-day training courses and workshops, hosted by the Institute for Inland Water Management and Waste Water Treatment (RIZA), will focus on the quality assurance and quality control of monitoring river basins involving screening methods.

The laboratory training course (1-2 November) is intended for laboratory staff working in monitoring, and focuses on introducing emerging tools, such as screening methods and integrating samplers, suitable for the WFD. The policy workshop (2-4 November) aims to attract policy makers specialising in implementation of the WFD and senior staff of water monitoring institutions. Focus will be on WFD monitoring strategies and the implementation of (emerging) chemical and biological methods, including legal and financial implications.
