The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has won a £660,000 prize from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The annual Gates Award for Global Health recognises organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to improving global health. Chosen by a jury of international health leaders from more than 100 nominations from around the world, the university is both the first academic institution to win the award and the first British recipient. Sir Andrew Haines, director of the institution, will receive the award on behalf of the university at a special ceremony in Washington on 28 May.
