Queen Margaret University - Therapy teamed up with dance

A form of psychotherapy that uses movement and dance as a means of communication is being offered for the first time in the UK as an MSc by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Programme leader Vicky Karkou said: "Dance movement psychotherapy is used as a treatment for people who are emotionally distressed or are socially deprived, and for those who experience physical or mental illness or disability." The programme, which combines academic study with clinical placements and movement work, was suited to people with a dance or movement background who had experience in the mental health, social work or education fields, she said.
