Supplementing the diet of cows could deliver considerable benefits to human health without the need to reduce the intake of dairy products, University of Reading scientists have discovered. As part of the European Union Lipgene project, researchers in the Nutritional Sciences Research Unit have demonstrated that changing the feeding regime of dairy cows can reduce the saturated fat content of milk by 22 per cent. This would lead to a reduction in the amount of saturated fat in the human diet, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.
