Blair asserts his European credentials
Prime minister Tony Blair was confronted by about 50 anti-war demonstrators as he left the European Research Institute at the University of Birmingham today, where he had been delivering a keynote speech on Europe. He had said the new institute, headed by Anand Menon, was a tribute to lateral thinking - vital for Britain and for Europe in the 21st century.
Bill to benefit graduate teachers in debt
The Education Bill published today will enact the government’s promise to pay off the student loans of graduates who become teachers in shortage subjects. The government also wants to change the law to allow more pupils to sit national tests, GCSEs and AS-Levels early and spend more time on vocational courses.

Woman arrested after student murder
A -year-old Costa Rican woman has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a University of Kansas student who was working on a research project into the country's ferns. Shannon Martin was murdered after visiting a disco.
