Precise image of the week belonged, unwittingly or not, to the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals' spokesman who described the assembled bosses as "aerated" when they met to discuss the outcome of the Budget. This brought back memories of the old Aerated Bread Company whose main London factory occupied the site now filled by Sainsbury's in Camden Town. Dictionaries define aerated as "charged with gas" meaning that the ABC's product equated exactly to the v-cs' position of the moment - short on dough, but with plenty of hot air.
