Final Word

四月 12, 1996

This week's Final Word comes from a native of Prague, who, for a time, was Rodin's secretary:

"But were they to waken for us, the endlessly dead, a symbol, behold, they would point to the catkins on the bare hazel, hanging downwards, or have us believe in the rain that falls on the dark soil in springtime. - And we, who think of happiness rising, our hearts would be moved more than perhaps we could bear, when a happy thing falls."

The winner of last week's competition, who correctly identified Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front , is Helen Vahramian of Manchester Metropolitan University.
