York withdraws PhD

York University has withdrawn a PhD from a senior academic at Durham University after an investigation into plagiarism. Tony Antoniou stepped down as dean of Durham's Business School when the allegations first surfaced in September, but he remains a professor at Durham. York this week said that the award, for the 1986 thesis, "Futures Markets: Theory and Tests", was being withdrawn. As The Times Higher reported last month, substantial parts of this work were plagiarised from various sources. Professor Antoniou is also facing disciplinary action by Durham after an investigation into a separate 1988 journal paper that had also used material, without acknowledgement, from other sources.
