University of East Anglia - Chocolaty goodness put to test

五月 1, 2008

A study into the health benefits of chocolate for women has been launched at the University of East Anglia. In the first clinical trial, postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes will eat one bar of specially formulated chocolate every day for a year. The chocolate contains a higher dose of the protective compounds found in cocoa that are thought to reduce risk factors for heart disease. "We hope to show that adding flavonoids to their diets will provide additional protection from heart disease and give women the opportunity to take more control over reducing their risk of heart disease in the future," said Aedin Cassidy, who is leading the study. The research is being funded by Diabetes UK.
