University of Bath - Stem-cell alternative

八月 13, 2009

The number of animal experiments conducted by researchers investigating motor neurone disease could be cut. A project led by Vasanta Subramanian, lecturer at the department of biology and biochemistry at the University of Bath, aims to develop a technique using human stem cells to study the debilitating neurological disease, reducing the reliance on animal testing. The study will use induced pluripotent stem cells harvested from adult skin. The project is funded by the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research.
