University of Aberdeen - Legacy of achievements

A medical physicist whose team helped to transform medical imaging technology has donated his entire collection of honours to a historic medical society at the University of Aberdeen. John Mallard, the university's first professor of medical physics, played a key role in the development of two globally important technologies - magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine imaging, which includes positron emission tomography.

Both technologies are used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other conditions. Now he is to hand over a lifetime's collection of medals, certificates, awards and plaques to the Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society - a society for medical graduates based at the Foresterhill health campus.
