Telling a real whopper

十月 18, 2002

A cafe owner is on the warpath after posters falsely offering cut-price burgers were plastered over student accommodation at Rhodes University, South Africa.

Pete Burger, owner of Mr Burger, said he suspected that a student was behind the prank posters, which offered half-price burgers and free all-day deliveries. He said he was having a drink in the pub when students began telling him they couldn't wait for the next day's big special. Once he twigged what was happening, Mr Burger leapt into his car and raced up to the campus to rip down the posters.

But the damage was done. The next day, the shop was swamped by hungry bargain-hunting students and had to close. Mr Burger told East Cape News : "When he (the prankster) gets caught, I want him to make a public apology. Then I will sentence him to spending a few weeks doing hard labour in my shop peeling potatoes."
