Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama - Tribunal warning over restructure

The Educational Institute of Scotland is warning of a spate of employment tribunals if the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama proceeds with restructuring plans to combat a £600,000 shortfall. It is urging the academy to wait until the Scottish Funding Council completes a review of drama provision, which is widely expected to increase the funding per student, currently lagging far behind the funding for music students. There were fears of large redundancies when the academy revealed the funding crisis earlier this year. But the academy has since said there is likely to be only one redundancy in drama and that five bids for voluntary severance had been accepted. The EIS said it was alarmed by the redundancy and a bid to transfer staff to new contracts.
