Leicester wants tribunal cases kept quiet

An attempt to stop press coverage of a sex harassment industrial tribunal case has been lodged by the University of Leicester.

Leicester is facing at least five employment tribunal cases in which former employees allege discrimination and unfair dismissal.

In a case that emerged last summer, the university successfully managed to impose a Restricted Reporting Order, which banned the press from mentioning not just the applicant and the accused individuals, but also the university, the department where the alleged discrimination took place and 44 other individuals.

The sweeping reporting ban was revoked at appeal in November last year. Now only the individuals and their families immediately involved are protected.

Leicester University has appealed against the decision to lift the order and hopes not to be mentioned in any coverage.
