Brussels, 28 Jul 2005

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a call for tenders addressing the next step in developing information society services in the new EU Member States.

The study is part of the ongoing work on information society developments in the new Member States carried out within the ICT unit of the IPTS.

The study seeks to support the development of the information society in the new Member States by documenting, analysing and assessing the development for eGovernment and eHealth services.

The specific objectives of this study are the following:

- in the ten new Member States and for the two application areas of eGovernment and eHealth, to collect the relevant qualitative and quantitative data, analyse it and develop a meaningful assessment of both areas' state-of-affairs and trajectory of development, and derive the relevant conclusions in terms of policy and research. This task will result in ten national reports.

- to build one transnational report providing an assessment as generic as possible for the ten new Member States on the current developments and trends of eGovernment and eHealth across all ten countries, to identify the major specific contextual factors influencing these developments, to analyse the policy options in order to address the challenges, and to suggest the most important future technical and non-technical research and development (R&D) challenges specific to eGovernment and to eHealth.
