Universities received an average of three freedom of information requests a month in 2006 - much the same as in 2005, according to a survey by the Joint Information Systems Committee infoNet, Universities UK and GuildHE.

Management, administration and finance are the areas targeted for most requests, in line with 2005. Requests regarding student admissions fell by 25 per cent, while estates and buildings saw a 99 per cent rise and requests for research-related information were up 94 per cent.
