The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has a new home on CORDIS, the EU's official service on research and innovation. The new site replaces ESFRI's page on the European Research Area (ERA) service.

The site includes an overview of ESFRI's history, membership and operational structure and processes. Launched in April 2002, ESFRI brings together representatives of EU Member States and Associated Countries, appointed by national ministers responsible for research, as well as one representative of the European Commission.

ESFRI's aim is to support a coherent approach to policy-making on research infrastructures in Europe, and to act as an incubator for international negotiations on new initiatives. In particular, ESFRI is preparing a European Roadmap for new research infrastructures of pan-European interest.

The ESFRI Roadmap will be instrumental in helping to identify those projects that are crucial for the scientific community in Europe. The first roadmap is to be published by early autumn 2006. The Commission's proposals for the Seventh Framework Programme for research (FP7), under the Specific Programme on 'Capacities', include building on this work by facilitating the construction phase of selected projects.

The new ESFRI service on CORDIS includes a section devoted to this ongoing process. The roadmap will be periodically updated and its subsequent revisions will be considered by the Member States and Commission to better define priority projects to be supported at national and European levels. ESFRI has set up 15 Roadmap Working Groups to analyse and report on topical issues.

The new service includes details on how to contribute to the roadmap, as well as all ESFRI meetings and conferences, both past and upcoming.
