A touch-up job: Andrew Cranny of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at Southampton University fine-tunes a prototype of the 'Remedi-Hand'. The prosthetic, which not only mimics the movement of a human hand but also 'senses', is a refinement of a previous effort that was destroyed in a fire a year ago. It features electronic sensors that detect how much force is being exerted and relay the information to a tiny processor that can alter the grip
