Contemporary Management

二月 28, 2008

An example of a multinational corporation in action, McGraw-Hill has leveraged its investment in the US edition with its wealth of online facilities and customised this for the European market. If you want to introduce undergraduates to useful gobbets of information about management theory and practice this will do the job, but they won't get the full picture. It's thin on context and background - we move from Taylor, to Weber, to Elton Mayo, to Fayol and Burns and Stalker in 18 pages. With the exception of Weber, no one's national context is mentioned, and here it does matter.

Who is it for? Students on "with management" courses or seeking a general introduction to management.

Presentation: Good.

Would you recommend it? Only if I particularly wanted access to the online facilities and didn't mind that the students were learning recipes.
