Martin Fronc, Slovak Education Minister, will make a second attempt to force through a controversial tuition-fee law after his proposals were narrowly defeated in a parliamentary vote earlier this year.

Mr Fronc claims that without across-the-board fees of 21,500 koruny (Pounds 380) per student, universities will be unable to tackle urgently needed reform and improvements.

The proposal will be resubmitted to parliament in January and is likely to face opposition from student groups and non-government coalition parties.
