Advancing knowledge and the knowledge economy

Brussels, 30 Nov 2004

A conference on advancing knowledge and the knowledge economy will take place in Washington DC in the US on 10 and 11 January. The event is a joint initiative between several EU, US and international organisations, and involves the Commission's Research and Information Society DGs.

The conference will bring together leading experts in order to examine how processes for creating and organising knowledge interact with information technology, business strategy and changing social and economic conditions.

The event is designed to broaden and deepen understanding of how difficult-to-measure knowledge resources drive an increasingly virtualised economy, and to assess prospects for advancing and regenerating knowledge infrastructure, institutions and policies.

The topics of the conference overlap with those of the 'Citizens and governance in a knowledge-based society' thematic priority of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
