A team of astronomers, including scientists from the University of Hertfordshire, has discovered the youngest extrasolar planet orbiting a sun-type star. The researchers found that the planet, named BD+20 1790b, has six times the mass of Jupiter and is 35 million years old. Previously, the youngest-known extrasolar planet was about 100 million years old. Details of the discovery have been published in the Astronomy & Astrophysics journal.
