A £25 million Centre for Nuclear Energy Technology (C-NET) is to be established at the University of Manchester to supply graduates to support the nuclear industry and undertake independent academic research. The university said it would make a "substantial" investment in the centre to be based at its Dalton Nuclear Institute. Funding is also being sought from the Northwest Regional Development Agency. The decision follows the Government's recent decision to encourage the construction of a new generation of nuclear plants. The new centre is expected to open for business this year.
