Queen Mary, University of London - Credit for extracurricular work

A new course designed to encourage students to broaden the focus of their learning beyond purely academic study has been launched by Queen Mary, University of London. The Drapers' Skills Award for Undergraduates is an optional two-year programme that gives students credit for extracurricular activities such as work experience, active club or society membership, field trips or group projects, or an undertaking on behalf of a charity or community group. Ben Kotzee, learning and teaching development adviser at Queen Mary, said: "It gives students academic credit for critically evaluating the personal development that arises from being involved in curricular and extracurricular activities." It is open to first-year undergraduates in the arts and humanities and social sciences and is supported by the Drapers' Company of the City of London.
