Scots AUT issues warning over job loss threat

Edinburgh University's local Association of University Teachers has condemned "disgraceful" proposals for job-loss compensation under a restructuring scheme.

Edinburgh, which was facing a £12 million deficit within four years, has negotiated a £40 million bond to underpin restructuring that will include shedding jobs.

Edinburgh's AUT claims that management is refusing to negotiate over a document produced by managers that warns that only capped statutory payments will be made for any compulsory redundancies. The AUT's Scottish council has passed an emergency motion warning Edinburgh that it faces sanctions if it makes any attempt to impose compulsory redundancies.
