Battle to keep nursing in higher education

The battle to keep nursing in higher education stepped up this week. The RCN, responding to health secretary Frank Dobson, said "scapegoating nurse education avoids the real issues of low pay, inadequate career structure and poor working conditions".

Christine Hancock, general secretary of the RCN, said: "We strongly refute the charge that the move of nurse education into higher education is putting off prospective candidates."

The RCN, which today gives evidence to the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting review of nurse education, is seeking a meeting with Mr Dobson.
