Founded in 1966 as a Nutritional College for 100 students, Kobe Gakuin University is one of largest private university integrating cultural, social and natural studies in Kobe City. Currently, the university is spread across three campuses and includes 10 faculties and eight graduate schools.
The university was initially envisioned as a private school for girls in 1912, but today the university holds a spot as a full-fledged, co-educational multidisciplinary institution of higher education.
In line with its founding philosophy of "shinri-aiko kosei-soncho" (love of truth and respect for individuality), the university provides several opportunities for facilitating the overall development of students.

Kobe Gakuin University also has several research centres like the Research Centre for Locomotion Biology, which provide young learners and researchers an opportunity to manifest their curiosity. The university has also been an active and regular recipient of several research grants like the “Grant-in-Aid Scientific Research” from the Japanese government.
