Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Sociology with Criminology is concerned with the study of social inequalities and divisions, and their relationship with crime and deviance. Students acquire proficiency in using sociological and criminological theories and principles in the analysis of complex problems. They develop a sound understanding of various theoretical perspectives and are trained in the qualitative and quantitative research methods used by sociologists and criminologists. Students develop a critical knowledge of the relationship between theory and empiricism, and apply methods appropriate to the study of sociology and criminology as they initiate, design, plan and execute research. There is an emphasis on the development of reasoned thought and action, and of transferable critical thinking skills.
