If you wish to study two academic subjects in depth our Joint Honours degree programmes are a great way to do this. Combining Creative Writing and English Language degree programmes at York St John University provides you with the opportunity to study language from a broad range of perspectives, whilst also explore the multi-faceted world of literature and enjoying the creative freedom of one’s own imagination. Studying Language you will explore the way speech is articulated, how language is structured and related to meaning, and how it relates to speakers’ intentions and purposes in social interaction. In Creative Writing the course emphasises the importance of creative practitioners and is enhanced by regular visits from contemporary writers. Visiting writers have included York-born award-winning novelist Kate Atkinson; poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan; novelist and poet Michèle Roberts; novelist Joe Dunthorne; graphic novelist and illustrator Graham Rawle; and award-winning poets Simon Armitage and Daljit Nagra.
