Sports and Exercise Performance

This course combines the essential sports science theory with practical experience in coaching and participation. The science-based course is designed for the student who wishes to pursue a programme with strong physiological, biomechanical and psychological elements combined with the theory and a practical approach to coaching and performance at all levels. The course provides students with the opportunity to complete National governing Body coaching qualifications and Sports Coach UK awards. The final year dissertation aims to develop research skills within the context of the sports science sector. Graduates will have a broad scientific training, but more importantly the wide range of assessment will allow them to communicate their understanding to others and apply their skills to specific situations. The Sports and Exercise Performance degree at Writtle University College combines essential sports science theory which is backed up a number of practical elements designed to enhance our students' learning experience. Our sports courses are aimed at those who wish to pursue a more directed practical approach to the study of sport and exercise and the science involved in participation at all levels - from recreational to elite and from those in good health through to those with specific medical conditions. It combines academic theory with a strong practical approach to the science of coaching and performing. On campus, students studying one of our sports courses enjoy access to a number of specialist facilities such as: •A recently refurbished sports analysis laboratory •Sports fields •Recreation centre which includes a sports hall, squash courts and gymnasium The field of sport and exercise performance is a rapidly growing area with organisations looking for candidates with a high level of academic qualifications, as well as valid practical experience. The content of these courses allows for opportunities to gain various coaching awards and the chance to use theory gained in the working environment. Having completed a sports degree, our graduates will go onto a variety of careers including P.E. teaching, Sports Development roles, coaching and physiotherapy. Many of our students also progress onto postgraduate study
