Families and Childhood Studies

The community, children and families are at the heart of this course. With academic study and work experience in a variety of community-based settings, you will gain an excellent understanding of issues relating to children, young people and families and their holistic development. In response to local (Welsh and English) and national government agendas, including poverty, children’s rights and social inclusion, this degree takes a multi-agency approach. The course covers all the important aspects of working with children, young people and families, including government legislation and how it affects provision. Drawing upon a wide range of disciplines, including sociology, psychology, philosophy, education, public health and human rights, the course investigates the changing dynamics within childhood, families and communities, equipping critically informed graduates with transferrable skills for employment in a range of sectors. It also offers an alternative route into teaching.
