Cyber Security is a rapidly expanding area with exciting career opportunities. A variety of telecommunications such as the internet and wireless technology are used in our everyday lives and essential for industry. Our dynamic degree aims to enhance your career prospects through working on real live projects and work placements and to meet the future needs of the IT industry. Developed to be in line with our research strengths within the computing department, our course is not all about theory; you will have the opportunity to undertake real life projects in your second and third years, preparing you for work within the industry. This course is intended to address the advances in telecommunications. Due to its delivery being within the computing department it concentrates on the delivery of computer based solutions and the protocols associated with this technology. Studying Cyber Security will give students a deep understanding of IP telephony and the future and emerging technologies associated with this area. Opportunities are given to students to build and configure telecommunications system as well as the necessary support systems to enable them to work in a production environment. Additionally the course explores the issues associated with managing these types of systems and in particular the necessary aspects of network security. This degree combines aspects of computer science, computer programming and software development with some elements of electrical engineering. You will gain an understanding of the theory behind telecommunications, new techniques and future developments and learn through practical tasks enabling you to become a versatile and knowledgeable practitioner.
