Mathematical Sciences

Our B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematical Sciences offers a more applied programme of study than our B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics. This programme has been designed with the specific needs of employers in mind and therefore it includes a higher proportion of Statistics and Operational Research. Like the B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics the programme starts by reinforcing the mathematical foundations you will have studied at previous levels and gradually introduces more advanced and specialised content areas. In second and subsequent years there is a strong focus on the key areas of Mathematical & Statistical Modelling, Operational Research and Statistical Cybermetrics. The advanced pure Mathematics is retained as an optional component since the main focus will be on real world applications. The expertise and transferrable skills you will receive will leave you well positioned for any career associated with the mathematical sciences. You will also be given guidance in the use of specialist mathematical, operational research and statistical software such as SPSS, Maple, GPSS and R. An appreciation of good professional practice and the development of essential employability skills are also embedded in the course.
