This course will allow you to develop your technical, supervisory and managerial abilities within the context of the hospitality business. On this course you will learn about the management of hospitality products and services, and we will encourage you to develop a strategic approach to the ever-changing business, economic and social demands placed on the industry. All of our teaching staff are experienced hospitality practitioners, with many undertaking research, and others are recognised authors. Studying a joint honours degree will allow you to tailor your studies to suit your interests and to develop your growth as a student of hospitality and food service. This approach will help you to develop into a high-calibre, motivated graduate, equipped with the confidence and flexibility to thrive in the diverse hospitality services industry. In the core and optional modules, we will enhance your understanding and appreciation of the complexities that surround management-level roles. You will acquire specific knowledge and more general skills, including knowledge of strategy development, financial management and contemporary issues in the industry. We aim to build your knowledge of restaurant management with food and beverage modules, as well as broadening your understanding of the service industry's global operations. Additionally, you will gain valuable work experience in your one-year work placement. The placement can be in any area of the hospitality industry either in the UK or abroad, and allows you gain essential skills learned through working in an operating business. By developing a strong management background in the context of hospitality and food services, you will also gain transferable skills for a range of careers in international or UK hotel groups, restaurants and catering firms. You may also wish to undertake postgraduate study to specialise in a subject you've already studied, or to explore something new.
