FdSc Healthcare Science at UWE Bristol draws on our unique links with NHS providers in England and Wales. Offering a clear pathway to follow as a healthcare science associate, you’ll get professional training and career development, through a mix of work-based learning, online modules and block sessions at University. The flexible format means you can study with minimal disruption to your work – and apply what you learn straight away in your role. To join, you need to be working as a trainee healthcare science associate or have secured a Higher Apprenticeship training position in an NHS laboratory (life sciences), clinical physiology or medical engineering department. The course meets the training requirements of the NHS Career Framework 4 for Healthcare Science Associates. That means, once you finish, you can go straight into year three of one of our BSc(Hons) Healthcare Science courses -Life Science, Physiological Sciences or Clinical Engineering – depending on your existing area of work. Graduates generally go on to work in NHS laboratories, community clinics or research. Your knowledge and skills will also be applicable in areas such as clinical trials, drug regulation, medical communications, scientific journalism, forensics or medical sales.
