This course covers a broad spectrum of civil and environmental engineering including structures, highways and fluid mechanics, as well as environmental assessment; these subjects are developed throughout the course and students have the opportunity to specialise in their final year; projects are used throughout the year to help develop design skills and integrate subject knowledge. The course has been designed for partial CEng accreditation and has been submitted to the JBM for review. In your first year you will study a range of core modules to develop your knowledge of mathematics, construction, geology, materials, mechanics and surveying. More advanced modules cover structures, ground engineering, costing and contracts. In your second year, the themes of structures and management are developed. Fluid mechanics and engineering hydrology are introduced, plus there are a variety of modules to choose from to develop a focus on buildings, water or transport. Please note that options available will depend on numbers, staff availability etc. The final year provides an opportunity to explore more specialised areas. You will take modules in ground engineering, transport infrastructure engineering and environmental assessment. You can pursue your specific interests with a choice of modules in buildings, water or transport as well as the opportunity to join an International Expedition. You will also complete an individual design project, drawing on all your studies to produce a solution to a problem within your preferred field.
