History and Politics

**Why Warwick?** We’re a world-leading university with the highest academic and research standards. Today more than 25,000 students thrive across four faculties, which feature over 70 research centres and institutes. We’re a constant presence in the rankings of the UK’s and the world’s greatest universities, and the most targeted institution nationally by the UK’s top 100 employers (The Graduate Market in 2017, High Fliers Research Ltd). All of this means you’ll be welcomed to a safe, energetic and cosmopolitan campus with flexible, well-equipped study spaces to help you stretch yourself personally, professionally and academically. Whether you want to be a front-runner in a fast-moving graduate job market, or to make a difference and change the world, we want you here. **The course** This course examines the political and social dimensions of history, and how historical events have influenced the world we live in today. You will explore the theory and the reality of why people and states interact in the ways that they do. The two subjects complement each other – one aiming to understand how the world works and the other to understand why it works that way. The two Departments in which you will learn approach shared research areas such as globalisation, democracy and human rights from different perspectives. In addition to core modules, you can choose from a variety of optional modules in both Departments. You will learn to assess and analyse large quantities of information taken from historical sources including texts, images and film, and to present well-structured conclusions. You will also develop the abilities to gather and analyse quantitative material (e.g. from opinion surveys and questionnaires), and to structure and communicate complex information and analyses.
