Hispanic Studies and French

**Why Warwick?** We’re a world-leading university with the highest academic and research standards. Today more than 25,000 students thrive across four faculties, which feature over 70 research centres and institutes. We’re a constant presence in the rankings of the UK’s and the world’s greatest universities, and the most targeted institution nationally by the UK’s top 100 employers (The Graduate Market in 2017, High Fliers Research Ltd). All of this means you’ll be welcomed to a safe, energetic and cosmopolitan campus with flexible, well-equipped study spaces to help you stretch yourself personally, professionally and academically. Whether you want to be a front-runner in a fast-moving graduate job market, or to make a difference and change the world, we want you here. **The course** Hispanic Studies and French is a joint degree that allows you to gain expertise in two languages and cultures by devoting equal weight to each. Each year you take four modules: one in each of your chosen languages, and one module on a cultural or literary topic from each language department. We offer an innovative approach to Hispanic Studies, combining the study of the Spanish language with the study of the diverse range of Hispanic cultures across Europe, the Caribbean, the Americas, and event aspects of Hispanic history in Africa and the Pacific. Particular strengths include a focus on studying the transnational networks of cultural history, memory, literature and identity that crisscross the Hispanic world. Our Hispanic Studies degree is designed to enable you to study the Spanish language and Hispanic literatures and cultures to the highest level, while developing your communication, analytical and research skills. Your modules in French will enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the language, literature, culture, society and politics of France and the Francophone world, in both a historical and a contemporary perspective. Having acquired foundation skills in your first-year French modules, you will go on to develop both your language skills, on our compulsory language modules in the intermediate and final years, and your own particular interests beyond the language. Our modules cover literature, politics, philosophy, film and history, and range from the Middle Ages to the present day.
